The insert was designed to fit in the space created by combining the two largest sections in the cardboard insert.  To do this, we need to remove the cardboard wall and the side spacer sections, as identified below.

It’s actually easier than it might seem, due to the efficiencies in how the cardboard is folded.

Here is how to modify the cardboard insert:

1. Remove all game pieces from the TL box so you are left with just the insert, as shown below.
   
2. Carefully remove the insert from the box base and set it out on a cutting surface.   Don’t unfold anything yet, but you’ll need some space on either side to unfold a portion of the insert.
3. Flatten out the sides / walls of the large sections as shown below, but leave the bottom spacer wall in place.  (The right side  flattens out quite a bit  since it includes the center wall and the side spacer).
   
4. Basically, you just want to cut off the portions of cardboard that stick out on either side of the insert.  Once you cut them off, do not throw them away, you’ll need them in the next step. You have two options, choose whichever is easiest:
   1. Cut along the cardboard fold that is closest to, but not past, the edge (this is what I did) OR
   2. Cut them to exactly match the side profile of the rest of the insert
      
5. Once you’ve cut off the pieces, put the original insert back in the box and lay the cut off pieces on top of the bottom of the now much larger, single area.
   
6. Your Done!  The extra pieces of cardboard just provide some additional filler for the bottom and will stay in place simply from the weight of the inserts.

Original Dinosaur Island Box Contents

NOTE: This insert is compatible with both the Deluxe (original Kickstarter) and Extreme (2nd Kickstarter) versions of Dinosaur Island

Paddocks, Attractions, Improvements, and Recipes (PAIR) Tray

The PAIR tray is packed according to the below diagram

NOTE: 05 Jan 2019 – This is a revised insert that has better fit and also breaks out the 3+ and 4+ player tiles to ease setup.

Player Trays

Each player tray holds a complete set of pieces for the player, including the threat markers, as well as one each of the red and green temporary  markers that came with TL

Patrons Tray

The patron’s tray holds:

• All the visitors / hooligans / VIP’s from the original game
• All the additional visitors and hooligans that came with TL

Card Boxes

The card boxes hold:

• All the original DI cards
• All the specialists and plot twist cards that came with TL

Dice Tray

The dice tray holds:

• All the original DNA dice (if you have a purple die, it is a plot twist die and goes in the next insert)
• The 4 additional DNA dice that came with TL

Modifiers and Plot Twist Dice Insert

The Modifiers and Plot Twist Dice insert holds:

• All the original modifier tokens
• All the modifier tokens that came with TL
• The original purple plot twist die (if applicable)
• The two additional plot twist dice that came with TL

Dino Cage

The Dino Cage holds:

• All the original pink dinosaurs 
• As many of the additional pink dinosaurs that came with TL as you can fit (the rest will go in the TL box)

Marine Creatures Insert

The Marine Creatures insert contains:

• All marine dinos
• All marine creatures recipes and paddocks (Note: the blank marine creature recipe goes in the PAIR insert (above))

Purple Player Tray

The Purple player tray contains all player pieces for the 5th player

Card Tray

The Card Tray contains all remaining cards from the TL expansion:

• Blueprints
• Executive cards
• PR cards
• Module selection cards
• $6 card
• AI Action cards

Board Locks

The Board Lock pieces are placed upright in the thumb cut outs so they stick above the cardboard.  These are used to keep the boards from floating around in the box during transport

Facilities Trays

The facilities trays are used to store all the pieces associated with each of the facilities.

Dinosaur Annex Box

The dinosaur annex (formerly known as the Modifiers box) is used for excess pink dinosaurs

These are what we are calling “Board Locks”, and are used in the Totally Liquid game box.  These two pieces are inserted in the “thumb cut-outs” in the cardboard insert so they stick up and keep the player boards from shifting around in the box.

The Dinosaurs All The Way Down Upgrade Pack can be added to an existing Dinosaur Island insert by doing the following:

1. Replace the original Paddock, Attractions, Improvements, and Recipes Tray with the new tray from the upgrade pack.  The new tray is slightly longer to accommodate the new standard game recipes, and has a larger Basic Lab Improvements well for the additional Basic Lab Improvements that came with TL.  The packing order has been changed slightly and the wells are a little longer to make it a little easier to insert and remove tiles.  The Blank Recipes well holds all the original blank recipes as well as all the new blank recipes that came with TL.  A new packing diagram is below.
   
2. The original Modifiers insert is replaced by a similar insert that is somewhat “L” shaped and has 2 compartments.  Move the modifier pieces to the square’ish shaped section of the new insert and place the two new Plot Twist die from Totally Liquid in the other, rectangular section.  If you have a purple die in the original dice tray, move it in with the other plot twist dice.  Don’t let the original Modifiers insert get away from you, it is used when packing the Totally Liquid box.
3. Place the 4 new TL DNA dice in the original dice tray. 
4. Place the new specialist and plot twist cards you received with TL, in one of the original card holders. 
5. Fill the original Dino Cage with as many of the new pink dinosaurs as you can fit.  The rest should fit in the, now empty, original Modifiers insert.
6. Replace the original Dino Cash tray with the two new half-height cash trays and evenly divide the coins / cash between the two trays.  Having two trays lets you position them around the table for easier access.
7. Add the visitors and hooligans that came with TL to the Patrons tray
