Funtley Mill – Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks for getting the most out of our  Funtley Mill travel box and the Funtley Mill XL travel box that adds support for the Interbellum expansion.  Both travel boxes are designed to provide a complete portable solution for the Furnace board game.

What is the best way to load/pack the Funtley Mill (base game) travel box?

Here is a packing sequence, but the trays are designed so that this specific order is not required.

Here are all the trays laid out in general order from bottom (right) to top (left)

Start with placing the cash and resource/upgrade trays in the bottom

Then stack the Company card tray (tallest), bidding tokens tray, and multiplier tray on top.

Lastly, finish off with the Capitalist and round marker trays, followed by the rules cards.

What is the best way to load/pack the Funtley Mill XL (base game + Interbellum) travel box?

Here is a basic recommendation for loading the trays in the Funtley Mill XL travel box.  There are basically two layers of trays and those layers can be switched up if so desired.

Here are all the trays laid out from box bottom (right) to box top (left).

Start by adding the cash and resources trays, along with the variable bidding dial tray to the box as shown.  It may be easier to add the two grey trays first and then drop in the variable bidding tray.

Next add the two sets of card trays, the bidding tray, and the management tokens/first player factory tray as shown

Add the player marker / turn order trays as shown

Finally top with the original Interbellum rule book and the two base game summary cards.

Where can I get the rules summary cards?

The rules summary cards are available here

Does the XL version come with rules summary cards for Interbellum?

Interbellum introduced a number of modules to be added to the game which required a corresponding growth in the overall Funtley Mill XL box itself.  Since the box is now big enough to hold the original Interbellum rule book, we decided to forego creating a corresponding set of summary cards and just rely on the rule book itself since it does a great job in and of itself.

Any recommendations for how to split the Interbellum cards between the two card trays?

Unsleeved Cards

If your cards are not sleeved, you can easily split the cards by putting the Company cards in the tall tray and the remaining cards in the short tray.

Sleeved Cards

If your cards are sleeved, we’ve found that putting the Company cards and the Business School cards in the tall tray, with the remaining Interbellum cards in the short tray works well.
